Often used in conjunction with other stretches to relieve lateral knee pain
Tight quads can pull the pelvis forward, putting stress on the lumbar spine, stretching them provides relief.
Useful for stiffness after long periods of sitting or cycling.
Benefits
- Improved Flexibility: Increases the range of motion in the hip and knee joints
- Postural Alignment: Helps correct a "forward tilt" of the pelvis (anterior pelvic tilt) caused by tight quads
- Reduced Injury Risk: Supple muscles are less prone to strains and tears during physical activity
- Circulation: Encourages blood flow to the lower limbs, helping with recovery after a workout
Precautions
- Don't Arch Your Back, keep your core engaged to protect your lower back.
- If you feel a sharp pain in the knee joint (rather than a pull in the muscle), loosen your grip or stop the stretch.
- Keep a very slight micro-bend in the knee of the leg you are standing on to maintain stability.
- Never "bounce" use smooth, steady tension.
